Space and time… no, this is neither a physics nor a phylosophy lesson, don’t worry. It is just a nice way to illustrate a journey into how we Italian express the concepts of space and time and the linguistic tools we use to do it, without using specific grammatical terms like prepositions, adverbs, verbs and so on. We will of course, talk and use prepositions, etc. but not everyone is familiar with grammar, but everyone knows about going to places, moving around, directions and so on.
My main concern and goal therefore, is giving you good, functioning TOOLS to talk and write about things happening in time and space without the hassle of knowing what those tools are called by linguists.
Do not worry, you will learn which tools to use for each work to be done, you will know how to tell if someone is coming from or going to or if they are standing still in a place, and to indicate how things, animals or people are positioned. You will learn how to ask for and give directions. You will learn about expressions related to the past, the present and the future. You will learn about typical Italian expressions, and all those little pesky words to put in the right place (prepositions) which we Italians may use for both time and place, and which may differ from those in your language, or you may not even have them in your language, and you use some other methods.
We will do LOTS of exercises of every kind (oral, writen, etc.) because temporal and spatial expressions can be quite tricky in Italian, and it is important not only to know the bacis, but also catch the subtleties.
You will learn about:
